The Implant Registry FAQs

What is the scope of the Implant Registry?

The Implant Registry records products and procedures to single patients. For your patients, this means that they have a reliable record to look up information about the implant that has been placed, even 30 years from now. For you, it allows you to use your own data for a data-driven decision-making process in a safe environment.

Who can access the Implant Registry?

Anyone with Straumann® eShop credentials can access the Implant Registry.

Who has access to my data?

Only you can access patient names and date of birth, as well as single patient files. However, we perform summary statistics to improve the quality of our products and services.

Is the Implant Registry free?

All current functions are free of charge for the launch phase.

In which languages is the Implant Registry available?

The Implant Registry is currently available in the following languages: English, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, German, and Italian. Additional languages are in development.

Is the data collection with the Implant Registry compliant?

The Implant Registry strives to meet the highest standards regarding data protection and privacy including HIPAA (US) and GDPR (EU) regulations. Our servers are secured, operated, and backed up periodically by the market leader Microsoft Azure. If you would like to consult the documents governing the use of data, check the privacy notice on your local homepage and patient information when creating a new patient entry.

Is my data safe?

We take technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal data against accidental or intentional manipulation, loss, destruction, or access by unauthorized persons. These measures are designed to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of your data and to ensure the continued availability and resilience of the systems and services processing them. Our security measures include encryption of your data, firewalls, and password protection. Our data processing and security measures are constantly being improved in line with technological developments.

Why is the Implant Registry useful for my practice?

The Implant Registry is a long-term decision. Therefore security, compliance, interoperability, added value, and ultimately trust are essential. Your data is stored, encrypted, and protected using the same industry-grade technologies that the world's leading health insurance and health information providers use. Straumann guarantees our long-term commitment to this initiative and will extend the functionality over time. As industry pioneers, we will work to become the most attractive dental implant registry, both in volume and quality of the data. Reach out to us using the contact form below if you’d like to get a look "under the hood."

Will the Implant Registry only cover Straumann Group products?

The Implant Registry is agnostic to the brands used. To have the highest quality of device data, we rely on a curated database. Currently, we include more than 80,000 curated product datasets including the most common brands and we are constantly expanding. In addition, there is an option to create your own product listing (visible only to you).

How can I try the Implant Registry?

There is a test environment where you may test out the look and feel of the Implant Registry.

Is there a manual or a tutorial available?

There is an online self-paced learning pathway for the Implant Registry accessible to all clinicians and staff members within your clinic. The entire onboarding experience consists of micro-learning videos, complemented by a short practice to reinforce your understanding. Experience the freedom to learn at your own pace, anywhere, anytime!

Can I access and export data? How is data stored?

The data is stored on highly protected, encrypted servers at several locations around the world. The data format is industry standard FHIR, which is used by some of the largest electronic health record systems. This allows you to easily import, export, and connect with other compliant software.

What are the treatments that I can track?

Currently you can record all the procedures and devices related to dental implants.

Can I import my previous treatment data to the Implant Registry?

The Implant Registry offers an upload functionality for your historic data but requires that you stick to a given structure of data. Depending on the format of your previous data, this can be straightforward or might require considerable effort. Please watch our tutorial video how to upload data and contact us at registry@straumann.com if you need help.

Can I set-up a data exchange (API) with my local Patient Management System (PMS)?

Currently we do not have a data connection / application programming interface (API) with software outside of Straumann AXS. However, we are expanding our data connections between the Straumann AXS platform and various services. You can already upload a PDF of the surgery report that was created with Implant Registry. This allows you to store details of the treatments and products used in your PMS.

Can I generate a surgery report of implants and prostheses?

Absolutely! The Implant Registry allows for the automated generation of a surgery report in PDF format, providing detailed information about the products utilized and the procedures carried out. Please watch our tutorial video on how to do it or follow the tutorial video in-app.

Can the Implant Registry be used to support my clinical studies?

Analyzing the outcomes using the Implant Registry will help you gain insights into the safety and performance of the implant treatments you have provided to your patients. If you want to perform a Registry-based study and publish the outcomes, you can use the Implant Registry to collect your clinical data. In addition, you will need to comply with the local ethical and legal requirements. This means that ethical committee clearance may be required, and you may need written informed consent from your patients.
